End of the Century

There's ants in the carpet... Well, not actually the carpet. paj got up this morning and discovered them in the kitchen. After a thorough clean we couldn't see any at all. But we got back this evening, and guess what? They're back. We'd left some dirty dishes in the dishwasher and they were all over them. What do you do in that situation? Well, I'll tell you. Have dinner, fill dishwasher with more dirty dishes, slam door shut and turn it on. Hot.

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

We have a problem with ants every summer in our house (a reason I'm very glad to be moving). Some of the ant-traps and sprays work reasonably well - the ants eat the toxin and take it back to the nest where they kill the rest. You do have to keep renewing it. The worst thing is the flying ants. A couple of years ago we had a really bad infestation, they were all over the kitchen and bathroom. I vacuumed them up but they just kept coming. I find that the best way to control the problem is to find the ants nest(s), which we did last year) early in the year, and spray that with ant poison, or dig it up. That seems to remove the problem. Once they're coming in, they keep doing so as they lay trails. You can destroy these with bleach and just make sure you haven't got food crumbs lying around to attract them. Wish I could help more!
